Spheroid - Mk. II by DCkiq Spheroid - Mk. II by DCkiq
A second variation of something I made up when I was 7. An earlier version on the original Spheroid. And I must admit, this version seems cooler.

Their final design is about the size of a pea or a marble. It includes a duo-output camera, sturdier shield-like legs, more dynamic folding design, and an external AI (via satellite). They're used as an exploratory probe or a spying device. My childhood imagination of them included a minute gun, for use as a tank against small soldiers, such as ants.

Less dynamic version.

This is an awesome piece of technology. Very believable and awesome design. I even like the less dynamic version. The eyes and legs add a lot of personality. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah? Just cylinders huh? I see it I see it, looks really good, haven't played with the radial cloner but it sounds like a time saver ^_^

Also, to keep the cylinders from looking unrealistically sharp, enable the Fillet option with subdivision of 1. Fillet Radius should be below that of the cylinder itself. And set Phong to about 40 degrees. It makes a nice machine-like/manmade-looking cylinder! ;)

Cinema 4D ?

nice work with the legs mate, I'm really having trouble those sort of parts, which is unfortunate because it's what makes a mech look like a mech. To be clear I mean the kind of hydraulic joints you have going there

Yes.

The legs were made by cutting a section out of a sphere. (made easier if you throw that sphere in a HyperNURBS first before making it editable.) Then it's pretty much backed up by a few cylinders and a cube (to add a border) moved into place. Then I made the whole thing in a group and threw that group into a MoGraph Radial Cloner!

Sorry... But it looks far too cute to be a weapon or spy :-) I think you should do it in white, call it something imaginative like iBot ;-) and market it as a robo pet

Yes, BRILLIANT! Quick - register that name, create the images and take the concept to one of the home robot manufacturers... But do it FAST! ;-)

Then make as many of them as possible on a loan! That way, they will have already taken over the world without having to pay back the loan! :ninjaplot:

Your icon represents every cat. Ever.
Amazing sphere-o'-death you got here. I remember having an idea like so when I was about 7 or 8. It was somewhat similar, except with more weapons. Glad to see it's design put into 3D.

Yeah. Folding robots always fascinated me.

Yeah, because every cat I've ever had, or known people to have, has been like that. Quick. And bouncy. Cats are awesome.

Because the sphere is similar in design to the turrets, that also fold neatly into a portable shape. Albeit larger.
Your earlier version looks even more like a turret. :P

Cool design. This would be great in a scifi show. I could picture a swarm of these chasing someone down a hall or something. Maybe with the little guns firing.
