Despite the title, this exoplanet isn't a recent discovery,
but rather refers to the methods I found recently to create a more realistic planet in C4D. Namely, a Gas Giant.Subsurface Scattering
is a material effect I found that gives the material a sort of translucency. I used it here to give the atmosphere some depth in contrast to the clouds, who also receive some texture from it.Backlight
here was used to illuminate both sides of the rings, much like how they do in real life. I used to use a cylinder and boolean object to just simulate the dark shadows on the rings, but noticed that they do not show up when those parts are over another illuminated object, like a moon or horizon. So a backlit material helps.Displace Deformer
isn't as recent a discovery, but I had a wonderful idea to use it on a few capless cylinders to make aurorae.

, so go give the guy a hug.
